Student Union Constitution

Preamble

The Student Union of [College Name] is established to represent the collective voice of students, uphold their rights, and promote academic, cultural, and social development. The union shall work towards fostering leadership, cooperation, and a spirit of unity among students while maintaining discipline and harmony within the college.

Article 1: Name & Objectives

  1. The official name of the union shall be Government Post Graduate Degree College Student Union.
  2. The objectives of the union are:
    • To represent student interests in academic and administrative matters.
    • To organize cultural, educational, and extracurricular activities.
    • To uphold students’ rights and address their grievances.
    • To foster a sense of responsibility, discipline, and leadership.

Article 2: Membership

  1. All regular students enrolled at the are automatic members of the Student Union.
  2. Membership shall cease upon graduation, transfer, or disciplinary action.

Article 3: Structure & Executive Body

The Student Union shall have the following office bearers:

  1. President – Represents the students and presides over meetings.
  2. Vice-President – Assists the President and assumes duties in their absence.
  3. General Secretary – Manages records, communications, and events.
  4. Treasurer – Handles financial matters and maintains accounts.
  5. Cultural Secretary – Organizes and oversees cultural events.
  6. Sports Secretary – Promotes and manages sports activities.

Article 4: Elections & Term of Office

  1. Elections shall be conducted annually as per the guidelines set by the college administration and Lyngdoh Committee recommendations.
  2. The elected members shall hold office for one academic year.
  3. Any student with disciplinary actions against them shall not be eligible to contest elections.

Article 5: Meetings & Decision-Making

  1. The Student Union shall hold regular meetings, with at least one general body meeting per semester.
  2. Decisions shall be taken by a majority vote among executive members.
  3. Special meetings may be called upon by the President or at the request of at least one-third of the members.

Article 6: Responsibilities & Code of Conduct

  1. Members shall work for the welfare of students without bias or discrimination.
  2. Any form of misconduct, indiscipline, or misuse of power shall lead to impeachment or disciplinary action.
  3. The union shall function in coordination with the college administration and abide by the rules and regulations of the institution.

Article 7: Amendments & Dissolution

  1. Amendments to this constitution can be proposed by at least two-thirds of the union members and require approval from the college administration.
  2. The union may be dissolved in case of serious misconduct or violation of institutional policies, as per the discretion of the administration.
